All the materials needed for decking are here from posts and finials to support battens and timber decking boards. Timber is pressure treated for durability like the fencing above. We can advise on suitably-qualified installers in your area.

Fencing

See three different kinds of wooden fencing which have all been constructed from timber and hardware products supplied by Murthly Sawmill in the photo sequence below. Fence posts supplied are from selected Grade 1 or 2 timber.

Although the sawmill does not install fencing, through long experience we can advise on high quality and reasonably priced fence construction services in your own area. We can also advise you which products to buy based on your garden fencing plans. All timber has been pressure treated, which means that the timber is less likely to rot and is as a result much more durable than if untreated. All the components you need can be supplied from the yard or from our hardware shop, for example, nails, fixings, metal posts and other ironmongery.

By purchasing from us, you cut out the middle man and so keep your costs down, compared to retail outlets. Mouse over and click on the desired photo or use the control bar above it to play the sequence - use the slider control to vary the interval.

Stock fencing's function is to keep grazing domesticated animals penned in, or out, depending on the requirement. There is a variety of mesh sizes and heights used to control different stock, from a small mesh to control small animals such as rabbits, through cattle fencing at about 1.15 metres to a 2 metre high deer fence. To ease human access stiles and gates are needed at appropriate points.

Timber round posts are typically used as strainers at corners, driven into the ground by a post driver if it is in firm and stable soil, or if the soil is looser a concrete base is better. Posts are typically 90mm in diameter, with 175mm diameter used at corners and ends, which are braced with 75-100mm struts, usually angled at 45° to the upright. Turners are the posts (smaller than strainers) to assist with the fence changing direction due to the irregular shape of a field. Normally these would be around 150mm diameter. Murthly Sawmill can supply all the timber, mesh, wire and fixings required, along with fencing tools - for example to fix, strain and clamp wire. Follow advice on materials requirements from your fencing contractor, or from the sawmill itself if you are performing your own fence installation. Notice that the “popular examples” shown below are just that - please ask if you need different dimensions, which are either in stock or can be cut to order.
